OG is one of the most renowned teams in the world of esports, and their achievements, especially in the Dota 2 scene has inspired millions of players in the game. Not only did they become the first team to ever win two consecutive TIs in 2019, but they also managed to bring out the true potential in the underdogs like Topson and Ana, who were the stars in both of their TI winning runs.
The International is one of the biggest esports tournaments in the world, and the biggest tournament in terms of prize pool. Winning it once is a distant dream for most, but the OG roster made it seem like child’s play, beating PSG.LGD 3-2 in the grand finals of 2018 and Team Liquid 3-1 in the finals of 2019.
After achieving such remarkable milestones in Dota 2, OG expanded into the CSGO scene in 2019. Recently, the new CEO of OG – JMR Luna – has revealed in an interview with The Esports Observer that they’re planning to expand into Asia, and that too by next year. Luna has reportedly said that OG will have offices in Shanghai and Singapore by 2021.
As mentioned previously, OG has quite the fame for bringing the best out of hidden stars, just like Topson and Ana. With their expansion to Asia, new talents are bound to come to light eventually. Luna was seen saying in the interview, “We want to capitalize on the world domination that these gentlemen have been able to achieve in Dota 2, and we want to have real experiences with our fans around the world.”
Luna further said, “You cannot join every game by hiring the best five players, otherwise that game will never be financially sustainable for you. If you want it to be a loss leader, go ahead.”
JMR Luna joined OG as the new CEO only recently in June 2020. With his vision for the team going so far ahead, it seems certain that OG has a bright future ahead of them. However, it goes without saying that finding the right talents will certainly be a challenging task for OG, and fans across Asia will be looking forward to what team OG has to offer for them.
